*Daytona was run to IMSA regs so Group 5 cars were in IMSA GTX and Group 4 in IMSA GTO.
Watkins Glen was run to accomodate Trans-Am cars , Group 4 cars in T/A Class 1 )
PORSCHE again won the big class of Group 5 with the 2 main customers Georg Loos ( Gelo ) and Kremer Brothers each winning 3 races each. The marque scored a huge 160 ( 120 from best 6 ) to easily beat BMW to win the World Championship.
BMW won the small class of Group 5 with various customer cars winning 7 of 8 rounds. The top 2 teams were BMW Belgium ( 2 wins ) and Faltz ( 3 wins ). The marque scored 74 poins ( 68 from best 6 finishes ) to finish second the World Championship.
In production GT ( Group 4 ) Porsche still reigned supreme with the 934 model and in particular the Angelo Pallavicini / Lubrifilm car which won its class at 3 rounds
