What Autosport Magazines Quentin Spurring reported on the 308 Turbo setting a qualifying pole time only 9 seconds slower than the Formula 1 fastest lap in 1981

`The Carna FF built G5 Ferrari 308 GTB was so fast ( a shade over 200 mph ) at the end of the main straight that it made one laugh nervously just to watch it.Facetti and Finotto , not content with the 750 bhp of their`standard`twin-turbo engine , use a qualifying motor to give them 840bhp in order to get the most out of their PirelliQ-tires. Onlookers were open-mouthed as Carlo ( Facetti ) hurtled the projectile onto pole by over 1 1/2 seconds and they understood why the Bergamo based team had created such a stir at Daytona...it started to drizzle just a few minutes before the start. That was the first bad news. The next was that the Ferrari red was absent from pole position , the 308 stranded out on the track during the warm-up lay by a sheared distributor drive.Already pale ,this race turned a greyer shade...`
